Project Louvre

Consideration of the Nature of Art Prior to ‘Louvre Project‘

What can art be called? Beautiful things, or something that represents the time? When you think about what the basics of art are, you fall into endless questionnaires. Human beings are always at the center of art. Artworks are made only from humans. Artists are constantly trying to reveal something within us throughout the past thousands of years
from ancient times to today. What is its identity? The format and method of making the work have changed with the times. Through what they have created, we can discover the
unique characteristics of each era and explain them academically. If you look around the huge museum, there are many works of art. We refer to artifacts from various eras that are passed down to this day as contemporary artworks. What are those which numerous artists have created since ancient times? And what are today’s artists doing? One day,
this phrase suddenly came into my mind: Expressions of ideology. I thought that perhaps it is right to interpret the word ‘art’ like this. The history of art begins with the history of mankind. Let me give you an example through an artifact. One of the relics of ancient Egypt is the ‘Narmer Palette.’ Letters and pictures are directly carved on a stone plate.
We introduce this as the first historical document of mankind. The process of King Narmer unifying ancient Egypt was carved on a stone plate. However, not only the name of the king who is believed to be the first pharao, and his historical achievements are recorded. On this stone plate, the ideology that ruled the ancient Egyptian dynasty is directly represented. The clues provided by this artifact allow us to infer what the spirit that sustained the ancient Egyptian Empire was. Artists exist today as well, after more
than 5,000 years. An advanced civilization, science, and technology have changed the methods and materials for work. But the nature of artists’ performances has not been
changed. Today, the intangible ideology that dominates human beings is expressed through artists.

Le musée du Louvre

I chose a museum in France to work on a new project. Inside the museum, relics left by various civilizations of mankind are displayed. Let’s take a new look at these things. The numerous relics that fill this place are visible fragments of ideology. The statues here are very attractive. Here, you can feel the various ideologies that dominated mankind in the past. The two biggest elements that compose civilizations are letters and cities. Cities, architecture, and statues are linked within a single list of authority. The Louvre Museum
in France, symbolized by modern glass pyramids, has a global authority. The old statues here are now reproduced in 3D files. Similar to the letters, digital data is a form of
symbols. Sculptures stored as symbols are reproduced again through various processes. In this process, a material called Tetrapak is used to reveal geometric shapes and consumption using Polygon. Through the work, through the object being reproduced, I would like to ask a question of what authority the original has today. This is a modern parody using digital. Parody is one of the great ways to complete a work of art. This is because parody brings out false consciousness of ideology. Here is one important question. What is the spirit that dominates humanity today? It’s a material. The materialistic view of the world has turned the world upside down. Through its unique method of dismantling, postmodernism discards all the values that modernism has given. We are passing through a long tunnel of revolution. Can you see the end of this dark tunnel now? A new shadow of mankind is slowly revealing behind our backs, from the unknown light stretching from the end of the tunnel. After the dissolution of all the ideologies that used to compose modernism, everything we knew would be in the past. Do not be surprised. Western society has already agreed to all this. A new era under the control of a new ideology is already in our sight. This is something that is already predicted. Religion has a dichotomous structure, such as black and white, good and evil. Ideology also has the same structure. Over the past half-century, the religious cult of materials has intensified in Western society. It is because materials have dominated human beings. It has already been proven that humans are not free from control. Human
consumption activities are extremely artificial. The city is full of artificial structures. Almost all human acts are fundamentally opposed to nature. This is the truth. What
exactly are humans? No one has the answer to this. Existential anxiety: This is the limitation of human beings. We are all terrified in a deep inner soul. But we cannot prove
what we are afraid of. This is where all problems begin. Can you notice the flow of the great revolution that leads to religion – labor - human sex? The revolution to solve the
alienation of human beings paradoxically cause them to be governed by materials. Now we have to consider what the nature of this means and whether we are truly free from
ideology. My work started by exploring the relationship between man and city. And today, I arrived in front of the authoritative museum. I will open the door here and go in.
And I will announce that a new world lies ahead of mankind. I hope you do not misunderstand. This is not a criticism of capitalism. The criticism of capitalism is an outdated idea. Hegemony has been taken over already. My work, on the contrary, is a criticism of the ideology that dominates human beings In a new era. Let me briefly explain why I use Tetrapak. This is because it can be obtained through artificial consumption in artificial spaces. Through consumption, the religious cult of man has
accelerated as mentioned. I will parody the sculptures of the Louvre with the Tetrapak already consumed. And when this is done, the ideology governing the new era will be expressed through the work.
